Funding programs
Within the European Union there are several funding programs that support education-related projects, such as international student exchanges, teacher exchanges, interactive ICT-projects or other (partnership-)projects. On this page an overview is given of different funding programs that can be of interest to our member schools. Please note that many national funding programs have not been included, but might nevertheless be of interest to you.

Socrates is the European programme for education. Its aim is to promote the European dimension and to improve the quality of education by encouraging cooperation between the participating countries. Each year they do an annual call for proposals, mind the deadlines!

Comenius is one of Socrates Actions and supports school partnerships, projects for the training of school education staff, and school education networks.

Socrates’ Erasmus action aims to encourage transnational cooperation between universities, boosting European mobility and improving the transparency and full academic recognition of studies and qualifications throughout the Union. | |

Socrates’ Lingua Action is designed to encourage and support linguistic diversity throughout the Union, contribute to an improvement in the quality of language teaching and learning and promote access to lifelong language learning opportunities appropriate to each individual’s needs. The lingua program is applicable to all European languages, however the lesser used languages are prioritised.

Leonardo da Vinci is the action programme for implementing the European Community's vocational training policy, supporting and supplementing action taken by the Member States. Its aim is to use transnational cooperation to enhance quality, promote innovation and support the European dimension of vocational training systems and practices.
In specific terms, Leonardo da Vinci pursues three central aims: to facilitate occupational integration, improve the quality of training and access to this training, and to boost the contribution of training to innovation. The total budget for Leonardo da Vinci is 1.15 billion € over seven years (2000-2006).

eTwinning is a framework for schools to collaborate on the Internet with partner schools in other European countries. eTwinning is the main action of the European Union's eLearning programme. It promotes the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) at schools in Europe.

Teachers and school heads of schools involved in primary and secondary education as well as teachers and students of teacher training courses.

The aim of this program is to enlarge the European orientation and the corresponding professionalism of (future) teachers and school directors by stimulating continuing education abroad.

This Dutch program aims to promote the use of internationalisationprograms by schools and the foreign language education in relation the internationalisation. The ultimate objective is to make the European Dimension and the international contacts that are connected to this dimension an obvious part of the school policy. | |

To raise the level of pupils of the target languages English, French or German (and other modern foreign languages) by stimulation bilingual education, strengthened language education, early language education and the assistance of native language speakers.

This program promotes internationalisation through ICT contacts and exchange programs within primary education. It supports international partnerships between Dutch schools and schools in neighbouring countries.

This program offers Flemish secondary schools from all forms of education the opportunity to participate in a co-operative education project with a secondary school from one of its neighbouring countries.
